The advantages of Quarkus at a glance

Java is widespread in the enterprise world for several reasons: It is long tested, there are already many well tested components that provide language type security and is not too low-level. However, the disadvantages were previously all long development cycles and sluggish application servers. Quarkus continues to offer the advantages of the previous Java world, but specifically addresses the problems and thus reduces the costs of development and operation.

Container first: Quarkus is designed for less storage consumption and quick start times, making it ideal for use in the cloud, e.g. with Kubernetes

Fast development cycles: Quarkus has a live condition feature. Changes to the code are automatically recompiled during development and are visible without restart. In development, this entails a really great time savings.

Dev services: In the case of Java development, a H2 database runs on the developer computers, which in detail differs significantly from the production database (e.g. Postgres). With the Quarkus Dev-Services one can easily be connected to it. Errors and optimizations that otherwise only occur on a test system can be tested directly.

Known APIs: Despite the many technical innovations that Quarkus brings, the developer API remains very similar: CDI, JAX-RS, JPA, JTA, Hibernate etc. can continue to be used.
